AICHE's Chrome Extension lets you dictate into any website. Works in Chrome, Brave, Edge, and other Chromium browsers.

AICHE Chrome Extension

Installation

  1. Install from the Chrome Web Store (search "AICHE Voice")
  2. Click the AICHE extension icon in your toolbar
  3. Click Sign In - a new tab opens for Google authentication
  4. Grant microphone permission on your first recording

How to Record

Keyboard Shortcut

Press Alt+V to start recording from any tab. Press again to stop. Text auto-pastes into the active input field.

Extension Popup

Click the AICHE icon in the toolbar. Hit the mic button. Stop when done.

Recording in Chrome

Right-Click Menu

Right-click any text field and select "Record and Insert Here" from the context menu.

Where Text Goes

After recording:

  1. Text auto-pastes into whatever input field is focused (works with regular inputs, textareas, contenteditable, and React/Vue inputs)
  2. Text is also copied to your clipboard as a fallback
  3. Recent transcriptions appear in the extension popup (last 5) and in the side panel (full searchable history)

Chrome history panel

Keyboard Shortcuts

Shortcut Action
Alt+V Start/stop recording
Alt+H Open history in side panel

Customize these at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Settings

Click the gear icon in the extension popup:

  • Theme - system, light, or dark
  • Microphone - select specific input device
  • Auto-paste - on/off (default: on)
  • Floating widget - show/hide the on-page recording indicator
  • Typing speed - how fast text appears (Instant, Fast, Medium, Slow)
  • History retention - 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or forever

How It Works

  1. You press Alt+V or click the mic button
  2. The toolbar icon turns red, a floating widget appears on the page with a timer
  3. Audio is captured via an offscreen document (required for Manifest V3 mic access)
  4. Long recordings are sent in 30-second segments
  5. When you stop, text auto-pastes and copies to clipboard

Known Limitations

  • Cannot record on chrome:// pages (settings, extensions, etc.) - Chrome blocks it
  • Cannot paste into other extensions' pages
  • Some sites with strict content security policies may block auto-paste - text still copies to clipboard
  • Service worker sleeps after 30s of inactivity (normal browser behavior, wakes on hotkey or click)

Common Issues

"Mic permission keeps asking" (especially Brave): Grant permission once. The permission page has a 60-second cooldown to prevent loops.

Nothing happens after recording: Check if your trial expired. The popup shows an expired banner with an upgrade button.

Extension icon invisible on dark toolbar: The extension auto-switches icons for light and dark toolbars. If still invisible, pin it from the extensions menu.

Text doesn't paste into a site: The text is still on your clipboard. Press Ctrl+V to paste manually.

"Session expired": Your device was signed out from another device. Click the notification or open the popup to reconnect.
