Voice for design copy and text elements
Speak your design copy into Canva text boxes.
The short answer: open Canva in your browser, click into any text element, press ⌃+⌥+R (Mac) or Ctrl+Alt+R (Windows/Linux), speak your content for 20-60 seconds, and AICHE inserts formatted text ready for design adjustment.
Canva is a visual tool, but every design needs words. Headlines, subheadlines, body copy, social media captions, presentation slide text, infographic labels, marketing taglines. Designers and marketers spend more time on text than they expect. You open Canva to design an Instagram post and the layout takes 5 minutes, but writing the caption takes 15. The creative flow breaks when you switch from visual thinking to word-crafting. Your brain is in layout mode, choosing colors and positioning elements, and then you have to stop and become a copywriter. Voice bridges this gap. Speak the copy while your eyes stay on the design, and the text appears ready to drop into place.
- Open Canva in your browser and create or open your design.
- Click into the text element where you want content. This could be a headline, body text box, subtitle, or any editable text field.
- Press ⌃+⌥+R (Mac) or Ctrl+Alt+R (Windows/Linux) to start AICHE recording.
- Speak your text naturally. For headlines, keep it to one sentence. For body copy, speak a full paragraph.
- Press the hotkey again to stop. AICHE transcribes, applies formatting via Message Ready, and inserts the text.
- Adjust the font, size, color, and positioning in Canva to fit your design layout.
- Move to the next text element and repeat.
Social Media Captions Across Multiple Formats
The typical social media workflow in Canva involves creating the same announcement in multiple sizes and formats. An Instagram post, a LinkedIn banner, an x.com card, and a Facebook cover. Each one needs slightly different copy because each platform has different character limits and audience expectations.
Without voice, you type the Instagram caption, then retype a shorter version for x.com, then a more professional version for LinkedIn. With AICHE, you dictate the core message once into your Instagram design. Then click into the x.com card text box, press the hotkey, and speak a shorter version of the same idea. Then the LinkedIn text box with a more formal take. Speaking different versions of the same message is fast because you already know what you want to say. You are just adjusting the delivery, not starting from scratch each time.
This is especially useful for content calendars where you are producing 10-20 social media graphics in a single session. Dictating captions instead of typing them keeps you in the visual creation flow. You finish the batch in an hour instead of an afternoon.
Canva Presentations and Slide Content
Canva's presentation templates are popular for pitch decks, team meetings, and conference talks. Like PowerPoint, the design is the easy part. The text content is what slows you down.
Click into a slide's text placeholder, press the hotkey, and speak your content. For title slides, dictate the headline and subtitle. For content slides, speak the bullet points or paragraph text. For speaker notes (available in Canva's presenter view), dictate what you plan to say for each slide.
The advantage over typing directly in Canva is that AICHE's Message Ready formatting produces clean, professional sentences from casual speech. You say "basically our revenue went up fourteen percent this quarter mainly from enterprise clients" and get "Revenue increased 14% this quarter, driven primarily by enterprise clients." That saves you an editing pass on every slide.
Canva Docs for Longer-Form Content
Canva Docs is a newer feature that lets you create documents directly inside the Canva ecosystem. It combines writing with Canva's visual elements, embedding images, charts, and design blocks alongside text. Marketing briefs, project proposals, brand guidelines, and team wikis all fit here.
For Canva Docs, voice input works the same as any text field. Click where you want to write, press the hotkey, and dictate. The difference is that Canva Docs content tends to be longer. You might dictate an entire section of a brand guidelines document or a full page of a marketing brief. Enable Content Organization in AICHE settings for these longer sessions so your spoken text gets structured into clear paragraphs automatically.
Heads-up: AICHE inserts text as continuous prose. After dictation, add line breaks manually in Canva to create the visual hierarchy you want. For example, separate a headline, subheadline, and call-to-action onto different lines so they fit your design layout.
The pro-tip: when creating multiple designs in a batch, dictate all the copy first. Open each design, dictate the text content for every text element, then go back and do the visual refinement. Batching the writing separately from the design work keeps you in one mental mode at a time instead of constantly switching between visual and verbal thinking.
Result: writing copy for 5 social media variants that takes 15 minutes of typing becomes 4 minutes of dictation plus formatting time. A 10-slide Canva presentation takes 20 minutes to fill with text instead of an hour.
Do this now: open a Canva template, click into the headline text box, press your hotkey, and dictate one product announcement or event promotion you have been meaning to design.
