If AICHE isn't picking up your voice, work through the fixes for your platform below.

Mac

No permission dialog appeared: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone > toggle AICHE on.

Hotkeys don't work: Check Accessibility permission. System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility > enable AICHE.

Wrong microphone selected: Open AICHE Settings > select your preferred mic from the dropdown.

Windows

Microphone not detected: Check Windows Settings > Privacy > Microphone > ensure "Allow apps to access your microphone" is on.

No audio after permission granted: Some audio drivers need a restart after granting permission. Close and reopen AICHE.

External mic not showing: Plug in the mic, then refresh the device list in AICHE Settings.

Linux

"No audio device" error: Check that PulseAudio or PipeWire is running:

pactl info

Permission denied: Ensure your user is in the audio group:

sudo usermod -aG audio $USER

Log out and back in after.

Wrong mic selected: AICHE Settings > select the correct input device.

iPhone / iPad

No permission prompt: iOS only asks once. If you denied it: Settings > AICHE > Microphone > toggle on.

"No speech detected": Make sure your mic isn't covered by a case or your finger. Try recording in a quieter environment.

Watch recording failed: Force-quit both Watch and iPhone apps, reopen iPhone first. The auth token re-syncs.

Android

Mic permission denied: Settings > Apps > AICHE > Permissions > Microphone > Allow.

"Recording too short" error: Taps under 1KB are auto-discarded to prevent accidental recordings. Hold the button and speak for at least a second.

Background recording stops: Some manufacturers kill background apps aggressively. Check battery optimization settings for AICHE.

Chrome Extension

Mic permission keeps asking (Brave): Grant permission once. The permission page has a 60-second cooldown to prevent loops.

"Requested device not found": Your saved mic was unplugged. The extension auto-falls back to the default mic and clears the stale setting.

Nothing happens after recording: Check if your trial expired. The popup shows an expired banner.

Can't record on certain pages: Chrome blocks mic access on chrome:// pages (settings, extensions, etc.). Navigate to a regular website.

Obsidian

"Microphone blocked": Allow mic access in your system settings. On mobile Obsidian, check browser/app permissions.

"No microphone found": Connect a mic and click the refresh button in AICHE Voice plugin settings.

"Microphone busy": Close other apps using the mic (Zoom, Meet, Discord, etc.).

General Tips

  • Close other apps using the microphone (video calls, other recording apps)
  • Speak at normal volume, 6-12 inches from the mic
  • Background noise is fine - AICHE filters it
  • If nothing works, restart the app and try again
  • Check AICHE's mic selection in Settings matches your actual input device
