No internet? Record anyway. AICHE saves recordings locally and transcribes them when you reconnect.
How It Works
- Start recording normally (hotkey, button, or widget)
- Audio saves to your device
- When you reconnect, recordings upload and transcribe automatically
- Transcribed notes sync across devices via Cloud Sync
The backend doesn't know about offline mode - it just receives normal transcription requests when your device comes back online.
Per-Platform Behavior
Desktop (Mac, Windows, Linux)
Recordings save locally with no limit. An "unprocessed recordings" manager in the app shows pending items. On Windows, failed uploads are saved for manual retry.
iPhone / iPad
Recordings save locally. Crash-proof save means recordings survive app crashes, force quits, and unexpected restarts. Pending recordings show in a collapsible section in the feed.
Android
Recordings save locally. Pending items visible in the feed. Check internet connection if notes aren't appearing after recording.
Chrome Extension
Recordings are encrypted and saved in local browser storage. Auto-retry on reconnect.
Obsidian Plugin
Failed transcriptions are encrypted and saved locally. Max 50 items, 24-hour expiry, 3 retry attempts. Status bar shows count of saved items as "(N saved)".
Apple Watch
Watch records audio and sends it to your iPhone via Bluetooth. If your iPhone is offline, the recording queues on the iPhone until internet is available.
Encrypted Local Storage
Offline recordings are encrypted on your device. Even locally stored audio is protected.
Tips
- Offline mode is automatic - no setting to enable
- Check your status bar or notification area for pending recording count
- Long recordings work fine offline - they queue just like short ones
- For Cloud Sync of transcribed notes, see Cloud Sync & Encryption
